NFL SEEKS RULING IN KAEPERNICK COLLUSION CASE

Colin Kaepernick has not taken a snap under center in an NFL games since January 1, 2017. After not getting an offer from any team to play in the 2017 off-season, Kaepernick filed a collusion grievance against the NFL in the summer. After nine months of discovery and depositions, the NFL wants arbitrator Stephen Burbank to make a ruling on the case finding summary judgement for the league.

Kaepernick was the first NFL player to take a knee during the national anthem in August of 2016 to protest social inequality and has barely played since despite several teams considering him a quality starting quarterback in the league. Burbank must now either rule that the Kaepernick legal team has uncovered enough evidence to pursue a law suit against the NFL or dismiss the case altogether.

Several owners and general managers have reportedly already been deposed as part of the grievance and there have also been reports that the Kaepernick team also had planned to seek to subpoena President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to prove the president’s agenda regarding protesting players. Under the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, the ruling must determine whether Kaepernick’s team has uncovered enough evidence to support Kaepernick’s collusion accusation.
