Get your Popcorn Ready: Saints at Cowboys

Written by Jeff Allen of Jeff Allen Sports

New Orleans brushed aside their early losses against the Falcons and Browns, putting away the punchless Vikings at the Dome in Week 3. This weekend the Saints take their high flying offense to the house that Jerry built for a showdown vs. the 2-1 Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas had to make adjustments from their loss against San Francisco and then last week, after falling behind by double-digits, the Cowboys made a few more tweaks and it worked wonders. Dallas outpaced the Rams 24-10 in the second-half to notch their first two-game win streak since last November. Dallas won back-to-back games twice in 2013 and they were 0-2 the following week, though it’s fair to point out that both losses were on the road.

Sean Payton hasn’t had a losing record in September since 2007, his second year with the team. Dating back to last season the Saints have now lost five-straight regular season road games but if Dallas is going to win this contest they are likely going to have to score into the 30’s to do it.

Good teams like the Saints who fall short of their projected total on offense in back-to-back games are a 60-percent bet to bounce back the next time out. When favored in this range, road teams are actually hitting 75-percent since 2005 (21-7-1 ATS) and the recent hot streak since 2012 shows an unbelievable record of 19-0 SU and 16-2-1 ATS with both ATS losses going to teams who were laying -6 points or more. There are a lot of sidebars to this story but Payton and Rob Ryan are not letting that distract them from the task at hand. Look for some vintage Saints football as New Orleans gets back to .500 on the season.
